Mike Brown~ish protest. Will write more about it when at home. Just going to say that there are 50,000+ ideas flying out of the mic. Completely unorganized.
Back home now.
Rally ended at 12:15. I think they only stayed for about 2 hours after their march.
Saw anti-Israel signs, raise the minimum wage signs, occupy signs, anti-war signs, communist propaganda (they were handing out newsletters for $1, when I asked why they weren’t free, they told me that they had to make money somehow), and a few that were actually on message about Mike Brown and police violence. Overall, from the speeches I heard, there seemed to be no clear goal of the protest. The topics of speeches ranged from Ferguson, to education, to raising the minimum wage, to medicaid, to unions, and even the environment.
I talked with one guy about the protest. I asked him how he thought the crowd might feel about the fact that Officer Wilson has been in the hospital due to the injuries he sustained that night. The guy refused to believe me. I then asked if he supported the Second Amendment. He responded by saying there is no need to own guns, because the police are there to protected us. I then asked if he thought the people of Ferguson should be armed, to which he responded that they should not, because the police are there to protect them. He then called me an idiot when I asked how the people of Ferguson could expect the police to protect them before or after the incident. We talked for a bit longer after that, but then he walked away in anger.
